If you cannot tweak the Blogger template to your satisfaction, that none-the-less doesn't argue that you shouldn't use a 'blog; rather, it suggests that you should indeed get an autonomous website, an install 'blogging software configured or coded to your satisfaction.

Either a proper website, or at least make some changes to your Blogger template so they don't need to "click to enlarge." Shrink the sidebar, maybe.
